Don't you love when unexpectedly grace-full, lovely things fall into your life? I read a "Stone Soup" cartoon in the paper last week. I loved the message the cartoonist, Jan Eliot, conveyed through her humor. So a wrote her a quick email and received the following reply:

Hi Alex,

Thanks for reading Stone Soup and thanks for taking the time to write. It has been my goal from the beginning to create an extended family that was "real"--meaning marriage, divorce, step-kids, blended families, the works. Wally has always been that guy who will bravely step in and raise someone else's child, a guy that the world could use more of. Most of us do not live in "perfect" or "normal" families as defined by some... but the reality is that our families, extended, blended, mended, adopted, really are the "perfect and normal" ones.

My best to you,

Jan Eliot
